After few months following-up the same outstanding matter, and after being given the same old empty promises, I guess I cannot stand it up anymore. The dateline also were very fast approaching, it was a do-or-die decision that I had to make. After all, it was our team reputation at stake should we fail to deliver the whole project package, as being
I made the decision to confront this one particular team member whose outstanding output had made the whole team wait, in anger!
"Hi Dave, have you read my e-mail yesterday", I said in controlled voice when I met Dave yesterday. He was there at the Lobby, talking to the receptionist.
"Ahh, yes, I will reply it by end of today", he replied very calmly, as if nothing urgent and nothing to worry about. The dateline is already few months passed, and we need to present the package in 5 days time! No other team member has the opportunity to review his package and most likely, without all the checking and complete review, we all will be screwed-up!
"Dave, you are such an irresponsible person!", I shouted at him. My blood boiling. He looks surprised but quickly recover.
"Why you said that?", he asked innocently, or was that sarcastic question?
"We have been waiting for your complete package since months, and you seems never try to understand how important it is. You keep promising; broken promise! When we repeatedly asked if you need help, you said no problem, you can manage it... and now, we have to present it next week and we are not ready yet!!!", I yelled at him. Dave seems very compose and offer no sympathy for the team problems he just been heard, or rather yelled at.
"You guys to be fair with me also... ", Dave defending himself. "I am alone and you guys have a Section to complete the package", he continue.

Office story
I never imagine that I'll be in a situation like this...
It is about what happening in my office now...
All of you who are not self-employed must know the end-of-the-year performance appraisal that I believe is a worldwide practice by small or large organisation simply for the obvious reason: to appraise the employee as to whether they are doing their job as instructed (or rather agreed) or not.
Like my organisation, at the end of the appraisal you'll be given a performance rating; 1, 2, 3 or 4 (the worst!). And for rating 1 and 2, there will be the anticipating climax: Merit Bonus!!! (read: a lot of $$$!!! Well, not really much actually... maybe 6-7 months pay only).
This is where the problem start. Only 30% (maximum) of the organisation population will get the sacred rating of 1 or 2. So what happen to the 70%? Most of them will be rated 3 and it is only 10% (maximum) will be rated 4.
For the obvious reason not everyone will be pleased to be rated 3, let alone 4 where most of the cases it is a valid rating, as far as their performance is concerned.
I've been working for more than 10 years now and most of the time I was rated 3 only. (syyyhhh..! this is supposed to be confidential :-)). Most of the time I will reflect back on whether I deserved it or not, and at the same time envy (in controllable manner of course) those we were rated 1 or 2. I think I am better than some of those getting the good rating. Anyway, I always keep the abundance mentality (does this applicable here?) and promised to work harder next year...
But what happen in my office now really make me feel sick. This one guy seems extremely unhappy with the rating he got and start to make enemy of everyone in the office. I do not expect a 30-something man to behave this way... very negative. I am not sure what is he trying to prove with such a bad conduct. He has changed from a happy-go-lucky person to become ... (sorry, I don't know the correct word). He refused to talk to his office-mate and most of the time spending his time with colleague from other Department. He even cannot see eye-to-eye to those who were tipped to be rated 1 or 2 in the Department.
Does this solved his problem? I don't know. But behaving childdishly like this won't solve any problem. Short or long term.
Why not behaving like adult? Matured adult?
